Finding the positives

by Abi February 22, 2026
For the past few years, I have struggled a lot with social situations, anxiety, friendships, and everything being too much all at once. I was diagnosed as autistic 3 years ago and that has helped me to recognise my personal boundaries and which things can help me cope, and which things are stressful. You might be wondering: how does this link to faith and religion? Well, I have been raised in a Christian family who often go to church and I'm very passionate about my religion and learning how to be a better person. My Bible that my Church gave me for Christmas is always in my room to give me a sort of comfort, but I never really read it. However a few weeks ago, I picked it up and read a few passages to myself: one of my personal favourites being 'Romans 14 1:23', and I really enjoyed being given a heartfelt messages. Also, I have now started to share my gratitude for all things provided to me by saying Grace before every meal and thanking the person who made it. Following that, for lent I have given up puddings, bad sugar (chocolate, sweets, cake) and sugary drinks. I think this will help you recognize that they are bad for me so I will cut down in the future. In conclusion, being a Christian in such a welcoming church community has helped me learn who I really am, to accept everyone and to love all the bits of myself.
